A field access pass is required to enter our picking areas.
This pass will allow you to enjoy tractor pulled wagon rides to our picking fields, use of our children’s play area and the chance to sit in our shaded area and relax while enjoying the farm fresh air in our 1800s homestead area. For more information please visit our Admission & Hours page.
During the Blackberry Season we have pre-picked Blackberry and other homegrown produce for sale. Check out our available market items on our Farm Market page.
Pick only the berries that are fully ripe. They should be firm and black in color.
Avoid placing the picked berries in the sunlight any longer than necessary. Cool them as soon as possible after picking. Blackberries may be kept fresh in the refrigerator for up to a week, depending upon the initial quality of the berry. After a few days in storage, however, the fruit loses its bright color and fresh flavor and tends to shrivel.
DON’T wash the berries until you are ready to use them. Washing makes them more prone to spoiling.
Just before freezing, gently wash berries in cool water and pat them dry with paper towels. Remove and discard stems, leaves, and any under-ripe or damaged fruit. Then pick one of the three methods listed below to freeze Blackberries:
Dry Pack – Pack berries into containers, leaving headspace. Berries can also be frozen first on a tray and then packed into containers as soon as they are frozen. Seal and freeze. Freeze up to 8 months.
Syrup Pack – Pack berries into containers and cover with cold 40 to 50 percent syrup, depending on sweetness of fruit. Leave headspace. Seal and freeze. Freeze up to 12 months.
Sugar Pack – Gently mix 3/4 cup sugar with 1 quart ( 11/3 pounds) berries. Fill containers, leaving headspace. Seal and freeze. Freeze up to 12 months.
